This was the season for bunnies and eggs and chocolate. Store aisles were filled with them (unless, of course, you did what I did and waited until Friday to look for your kids’ baskets. In that case, the aisles looked more like the toilet paper aisle during covid).
But while society capitalized on a world changing event, thousands of Christians around the globe celebrated Easter. I love what the Russians say. Rather than greeting each other with, “Happy Easter,” they say, “Christ is risen!” To which the other person replies, “Indeed He is risen!”
A few days ago as I was thinking about Passion week, I ran across a description of Saturday that I liked, so I thought I’d share. It said Saturday was a quiet, waiting day. It’s often overlooked but important as a pause between death and resurrection.
Not long ago, I felt God speak to me and ask me to stop trying to figure everything out on my own and just trust Him. At some point in our lives, we all have, or will, face seasons and circumstances that leave us in these Saturday moments, moments of pause.
In these times, the natural tendency is to succumb to the natural responses. But this does not lead to growth, nor does it draw us closer to Jesus. I’m learning to look at these seasons of pauses as seasons where something beautiful is happening.
So as we wrap up the Easter celebrations, may we remember the work of the cross and the empty tomb. May we remember the freedom that was purchased for each of us – freedom from bondage, freedom from fear, freedom from our own destructive selves. May we remember that the unknowns do not mean defeat. And may we remember that the seasons of silence and questions can usher us into an incredible journey with Jesus.
If you’ve never believed in Jesus or you’ve believed in Him your whole life, my prayer for you this Easter is that you will reflect on this historical event with an open heart and that you will experience the source of love, celebrated on this holiday, that was meant for you.
To all my readers – Happy Easter! Christ is Risen…Indeed He is Risen!
