“Thank you for the food and we can drink water and thank you that I like candy and thank you for mommy cooks dinner, and thank you we don’t punch in the face and thank you for Lollipops…”
I like to think that, for the most part, I’m a positive person, but there are definitely days when I tend to get annoyed at the little things and forget to recognize the blessings all around me. I had one of those days last week. It was no fun. It’s interesting how the spark of a negative attitude can quickly spiral down to a really bad day. It’s so cliche to say that our thought life is powerful — but it is. It affects us and those around us.
In the middle of my grumpy self last week, the gratefulness of our 2-year-old (and, of course, the conviction of the Holy Spirit) put my I-see-the-glass-half-empty attitude back into proper perspective.
I often tell our kids, “When life is good—God is good. When life is bad—God is still good. And He is always with us.” May we all walk in the knowledge of this truth not neglecting gratefulness, regardless of our circumstances.
Reflection:
What usually triggers my bad attitude? Is it the action of others or perhaps my own unmet (and sometimes unrealistic) expectations?
Prayer:
Jesus, I pray that you will help us recognize our blessings, in the day to day, regardless of the season we are walking through. As we start this week, be the center of our thoughts and help us to live with grateful hearts.
Scripture:
James 1:17, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
