Our kids are still young enough to enjoy Red Light, Green Light. I remember playing as a kid and the feeling I had running as fast as I could only to come to a sudden halt before I was seen. Usually those little sprints ended with me back at the start. Then there were the times I’d take it slow, one step at a time, assuring I would not be starting over.
I’ve felt like this mentally the past few days. I’ve had a million ideas racing through my mind of what I wanted to create, how I wanted to improve myself, what I wanted to teach the kids, and how I could do it all at once, in addition to the responsibilities of normal life. It’s like my mind has been racing itself to win in a competition.
Then I had this grandiose idea (hear my sarcasm?). Take one step at a time. I have to be honest, as much as I’m a people oriented person, I think the task oriented side of me runs a close race. Because of this, I’m often thinking of the finish line instead of enjoying all the steps in between. And that is the space where there is so much to learn and grow and enjoy.
So, I came up with a little list (because I love lists!) of questions and/or actions steps. I hope it can bring a bit of inspiration, peace, and productivity to your week as it has mine.
- What is one goal I want to work toward this week?
- What is one step I can take each day to move toward that goal?
- At the end of the week, celebrate the slow movement forward and don’t stress about the steps yet taken. You can take those next week. 🙂
Happy walking.
